La mancha de combustible se aleja del Río de la Plata

El choque se produjo frente a la Isla de las Flores entre el buque griego “Syros”, que se dirigía hacia Buenos Aires, y el barco carguero maltés “Sea Bird”.
La mancha de combustible mide unos 20 kilómetros de largo por 30 kilómetros de ancho. Argentina y Uruguay, que comparten el río, unieron sus fuerzas para contener la mancha que se dirigía hacia Buenos Aires. Lograron hacerlo y además la madre naturaleza ayudó a prevenir un desastre. Por efectos de viento y marea, la mancha se fue desplazando lentamente hacia el Océano Atlántico. En estos momentos la mancha se encuentra en el límite del río y del mar. Según las autoridades, la mancha ya se empezó a degradar reduciendo su superficie.

Even though I don’t understand some of what is written, it helps me a lot to see the words that I’ve learned in my Spanish class used in sentences.
